A new HBO series about rock'n'roll will feature the film/music dream team of Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger. The series will follow two friends through 40 years in the music industry, from the early days of rhythm and blues to modern-day hip-hop, reports Deadline.

Also involved in the new series, currently dubbed History of Music, will be writer Terence Winter, who worked with Scorsese on the prohibition TV series Boardwalk Empire, which airs this September. Scorsese and Jagger previously teamed up on the 2008 Rolling Stones documentary Shine a Light.

The new series is being described as a rock'n'roll epic and has been in development by Jagger for a few years, first at Disney and then later at Paramount. HBO is now making a deal with Paramount to develop the pilot episode, according to Deadline.

Jagger will produce the series via his Jagged Films company, along with his partner Victoria Pearman and Scorsese. And if the project ends up getting the go-ahead, Scorsese would be at the top of the list to direct it.
