Now in its third instalment, the Verge Music Awards is XM Canada's way of celebrating the best Canadian music of the past year. A month ago, Verge announced the finalists in three categories: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Emerging Artist of the Year. Now, the winners have been revealed.

For Artist of the Year, Michou won the $25,000 prize. Michou is a folk rock band from Windsor, ON, and they were the underdogs on a shortlist that also included Arcade Fire, Stars, Tegan and Sara, and Zeus.

In the category of Album of the Year, Toronto-based pop rockers Zeus won $25,000 for their 2010 debut Say Us. This beat out albums by Michou, Stars, Tegan and Sara, and the Zolas.

Lastly, Verge and FACTOR handed out $5,000 to the Emerging Artist of the Year. Hannah Georges won, making this her latest success in a career that has included gracing the cover of Exclaim! and getting long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize. Other contenders were Elias, Jay Malinowski, PS I Love You and the Rural Alberta Advantage.

Georgas is also nominated for two Juno Awards, so we will see if she can carry on in her winning ways later this month.

In September 2009, Dan Mangan and Alexisonfire were winners in the first edition of the awards.
