Despite allegations of child molestation raised again in this year's Leaving Neverland documentary, a musical based on the life and work of Michael Jackson is heading to Broadway next year.
Previously titled "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," the show is now going by the name "MJ the Musical."
According to the New York Times, the musical will focus on the time in Jackson's life when he was preparing to go on tour for his 1991 album Dangerous.
Writer Lynn Nottage and director/choreographer Christopher Wheeldon initially said that the show would address the abuse allegations, which Jackson always denied.
Nottage and Wheeldon have not offered any new information about the content of the show, but a pre-Broadway run-through in Chicago was cancelled earlier this year after the controversy caused by Leaving Neverland.
Nevertheless, the show is set to enter previews in New York on July 6 of next year, with an official opening date of August 13 at the Neil Simon Theater.
In related news, a number of prominent artists distanced themselves from Jackson earlier this year. "Weird Al" Yankovic retired his Jackson-inspired parodies, while The Simpsons pulled an episode that featured Jackson off the air.
