Stay Hard

BY Sofi PapamarkoPublished Jun 1, 2006

This Chicago-based duo, David McDonnell (Need New Body) and Dylan Ryan (Ice Demons), use keyboards, samples, saxophones and the occasional vocals to create this bizarre sound that fluctuates between a soundtrack for an ’80s film about space exploration and melodic Casio pop. The addition of the saxophone on songs like "Predator” walks the line of adult contemporary, but the ethereal unison singing somehow keeps things together. "Bengal Tiger” is one of the stronger tracks on the album with a constant beat and melody with slight deviations. The album closes with "Call off Your Buffalo” a great electronic number with shades of Herbie Hancock’s Head Hunters.
