Mia Maestro

'Si Agua' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 9, 2015

Argentinian actress/songwriter Mia Maestro's debut album Si Agua came out last year, but it's only now getting a proper Canadian release through Arts & Crafts. Ahead of the official release on April 14, the album is available to stream in full.

The title of Si Agua translates as If Water, and it was recorded in Iceland, with contributors including Colin Stetson, Damien Rice and Ben Frost. String and brass arrangements were composed by Nico Muhly (who has worked with Björk, Grizzly Bear, Usher and more).

The songs touch on Latin and American influences, with Maestro switching between Spanish and English. The opening title track showcases the album's lush folk orchestrations, while "Blue Eyed Sailor" ventures into a slightly punchier direction with its horn-injected rock riffs.

Maestro will open for Damein Rice at L'Olympia in Montreal on April 10, and at Massey Hall in Toronto on April 11. She's got a Toronto gig of her own at Soho House on April 12.
