She managed to stay pregnant long enough to join Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, and T.I. for a rousing performance of "Swagga Like Us" at the Grammys on February 9 but the next day, M.I.A. and fiance Benjamin Brewer, guitarist for the Exit, welcomed their first son into the world (the couple have yet to reveal the baby's name). The Sri Lankan rap star, born Maya Arulpragasam, managed to find time to post an adorable blog about the birth, which can be read here.

It seems as though her spirited Grammy performance has inspired the Academy Award producers to also extend a generous invitation to her, as she has been asked to perform "O Saya," her collaboration with A.R. Sahman from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack, this coming Sunday (February 22) at the big event. The song is nominated for an Oscar.

Trouble is, M.I.A. is unsure if she can make it, as she's still be bed-ridden from giving birth. Showing an insane amount of eagerness, The Guardian has revealed that Oscars producer Luarence Mark is willing to do whatever it takes to have here there. "She's eager to perform .. we've said things like, 'we're willing to have her enter on a large bed,'" he said. "We'll make it as easy for her as we can."

While it's uncertain whether M.I.A. will be able to attend, the rapper has already begun planning for next year, announcing, "Me and baby are putting our tour dates for 2010 together and making mix tapes and figuring out a way to break out of the hospital."
