Published Jan 05, 2009Following a stint on Dischord with the now-defunct Black Eyes, Daniel Martin-McCormick and Jacob Long have finally licked their wounds and are emerging with a new band, a new sound and on a new label. Along with newfound drummer Damon Palermo, the pair are dubbing their latest musical incarnation Mi Ami, a groove-heavy, tropics-obsessed trio who have singed on with Chicago imprint Quarterstick and pencilled in a whole lot of activity for 2009.
First up, Mi Ami are giving us a taste of their hyper-percussive post-punk dub via their first Quarterstick single, "Echononecho," which is due out on twelve-inch and digitally January 27. The band will then quickly follow this up on February 17 with their debut full-length, Watersports, an album that, according to the press release, "builds on the promise of Black Eyes' spastic energy and renowned live performances, but steers it into a more focused, volatile, and personal direction."
Along with the release action, Mi Ami have a pile of North American live dates already slated for this year, with the trio playing Montreal on February 14 and Toronto on February 15. And from what we've heard, Mi Ami are best consumed live, so it may be worth your while to brave the harsh winter elements and check 'em out.
Here are those releases' tracklistings, as well as Mi Ami's upcoming tour dates so far:
2. "The Man in Your House"
3. "New Guitar"
5. "Freed From Sin"
6. "White Wife"
