With their new album Atlas Vending on the way later this year, Toronto heroes METZ have returned with their second single from the effort, "Hail Taxi," alongside a new video.
The A.F. Cortes-directed clip is at once barebones and extremely haunted, with the director manifesting images of isolation and the passing of time — lockdown-style. The black-and-white video was pieced together on a New York rooftop, using an inflatable pool, a $50 rowboat and some homemade lights.
"I wanted to tell a simple story that captures the song's overarching theme," Cortes explained in a statement. "The idea of longing for the past creates many visual motifs and I wanted to create a piece that feels timeless and conveys a sense of isolation, highlighting that while we can hide our feelings, we can't run from them."
METZ frontman Alex Edkins elaborated further on the track: "'Hail Taxi' is about looking back. The lyrics deal with the idea of reconciling or coming to terms with who you were and who you've become."
"Hail Taxi" is the second single off the new record, following the release of "A Boat to Drown In" from earlier this summer.
Atlas Vending is set to arrive on October 9 through Royal Mountain/Sub Pop. It will mark their first record since 2017's Strange Peace.
