METZ

"Negative Space" / "Automat"

BY Travis PersaudPublished Sep 26, 2010

These Toronto, ON noisemakers complete their seven-inch trilogy with this release and the two-song single doesn't nosedive like other trilogy finales (think The Matrix Revolutions and Back to the Future III). The thundering bass line pushes the intro of "Negative Space" into buzzing guitars and excessive feedback. It's a throwback to early Nirvana material, with little thought to harmonious interludes; it's complete mayhem and it's done wonderfully. "Automat" incorporates droning vocals with a downtempo beat, creating space for whirling guitar riffs to hypnotize you. Although only two songs deep, Metz showcase their worth on this release, raising the bar for their next record.
