In the aftermath of the catastrophic Haiti earthquake, musicians have been stepping up all around the world to play a part in the relief efforts. Here, north of the border, a coalition of Canadian television channels will air a fundraiser tonight (January 22) featuring several prominent Canadian artists, including Sarah McLachlan, the Tragically Hip and Metric.

CBC is billing the event as a "one-hour, commercial-free, cross-network special event," aiming to raise funds for the earthquake-stricken people of Haiti. All money raised will be divided between ten major charities (the Canadian Red Cross, UNICEF Canada, Oxfam Canada and more), and those organizations will then put the money towards their relief efforts.

Other musicians appearing on the special include Nelly Furtado, Barenaked Ladies and K'Naan. The telethon will also feature numerous prominent non-musical guests, including Wayne Gretzky, William Shatner, Pamela Anderson and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

The special begins at 7 p.m. EST (4 p.m. PST), and will air on CBC, CTV, Global, MuchMusic, MTV and National Geographical Channel.
