Metric to Score New David Cronenberg Film

Metric have made no secret of the fact that they're working on a new album, but what we didn't know is that they are also writing a new soundtrack. In an email to fans, the Toronto-based outfit opened up about this latest project for the upcoming film Cosmopolis.

Metric explained that they are working with Howard Shore, the Hollywood composer known for scores like The Lord of the Rings, The Aviator and dozens more. Cosmopolis, which is based on the 2003 novel by Don DeLillo, is being directed by famed Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg (A History of Violence, Eastern Promises) and stars Robert Pattinson and Paul Giamatti. It concerns a billionaire travelling across Manhattan for a haircut.

Speaking of the film, Metric wrote, "The themes are right in tune with the overall mood of the world at the moment. In Cosmopolis, the rat has become a unit of currency!"

Cosmopolis is due out sometime in 2012.

As for the status of Metric's next LP, they revealed that they're on the "last stretch" and that they are "looking at a release date in early 2012."

Also, if you have ordered Metric's new Fantasies Flashbacks remix vinyl collection, you're going to have to wait a little longer. Because of the warehouse fire in London this summer, there has been a sudden spike in demand at pressing plants and subsequent production delays. The release date has therefore been pushed back from yesterday (October 11) to November 21.
