Metric Explain Lou Reed Guest Appearance on 'Synthetica'

Thanks to Lou Reed's arguably disastrous team-up with Metallica, the legendary Velvet Underground leader has become something of a liability as a collaborative partner. But like it or not, Reed will be making a guest appearance on Metric's forthcoming album, Synthetica.

Reed apparently sings backup on a track called "The Wanderlust." Metric frontwoman Emily Haines told NME, "I met him at this Neil Young tribute, I got introduced to him and I'd assumed he wouldn't know who I was, but when we met he quoted some of my lyrics from 'Gimme Sympathy' so that was amazing. Then he invited me to Australia for this show and we did a couple of songs together."

The concert she's talking about is presumably the one that took place at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010.

Haines continued, "We had this bit in 'The Wanderlust' which needed a backup and I thought he'd be perfect, so I called him up and he said yes right away. He's one of the finest songwriters ever and to have him on our record is a huge honour."

This news follows hot on the heels of the first single from Synthetica, "Youth Without Youth," which hit the web yesterday (April 30). Listen to that brash, synth-y rocker below.

Synthetica is out June 12 via Metric Music International.
