Metallica Named Record Store Day 2016 Ambassador

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 23, 2016

Coming off the recent announcement of deluxe reissues of Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning, Metallica have been crowned the official ambassador for this year's Record Store Day, which will take place on April 16.

The band pointed out on their website that they've been a part of the celebrations since RSD's launch in 2008 and have obviously been fans of music for much longer.

"Independent record stores are part of Metallica's DNA," Lars Ulrich said in a statement. "They have been pivotal in shaping each one of us into the music fanatics we've all become. We could not be any prouder to be Record Store Day Ambassadors for 2016 and are looking forward to screaming from every rooftop the next few months about everything independent record store and beyond."

Metallica have also revealed their own RSD exclusive, though strangely one that will arrive on CD instead of vinyl.

Titled Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, Metallica! - Live at Le Bataclan. Paris, France - June 11th, 2003, the concert set is dedicated to the victims of last year's terrorist attacks on Paris. The release features live performances of classic cuts like "The Four Horsemen" and "Damage, Inc.," with all of the profits going to the Fondation de France's Give for France charity. You'll find a tracklisting for the CD-only set down below.

A working list of the unconfirmed exclusives coming out this Record Store Day can be found here.

Previous Record Store Ambassador's include Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl, Public Enemy's Chuck D and Jack White.

Meanwhile, the deluxe reissues of Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning will arrive right before Record Store Day on April 15. You can get more info on those sets here.
