Metallica and Lou Reed

'Lulu' Trailers

"We don't really know where it's going," Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich reveals in a new EPK for the Lulu project he and his bandmates launched with iconic Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed, and, boy, those seven words really say it all. That video, as well as a separate trailer for the album, which comes out November 1 on Warner, just add to the opinion that, yes, the collaboration is just as weird as we first imagined.

The previously unveiled "The View" scores both clips, with its bizarre melding of Lou Reed's sing-talk and Metallica's numbskull riffery. Whether or not you think the tune is a clunky heavy metal nightmare, Reed exclaims that the project "pushed me to the best I've ever been." Well, as long as they're happy.

In embarrassingly related news, Lou Reed was recently named rock's most overrated lyricist of all time on a list compiled by Flavorwire. Ouch.
