Metallica Announce Canadian Dates

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 22, 2012

Following a visit to Canada in 2011, Metallica have announced they will return to the Great White North this summer, having just revealed dates in Edmonton and Vancouver.

A couple of posts on the group's website earlier this morning (May 22) confirm that Metallica will make two stops in Canada this coming August, playing Edmonton's Rexall Place on August 17 and Vancouver's Rogers Arena on August 24. The shows will apparently be performed on a massive in-the-round stage, with visuals incorporating elements from the unit's 30-year history.

"Our rabid Canadian fans will love this sick-as-fuck, over-the-top, out-of-control stage that will be the cornerstone of our touring escapades for the next years to come," drummer Lars Ulrich said in a statement. "Don't be scared boys and girls, this is going next level."

The Vancouver show is primed to be extra special, as Metallica announced that they'll be filming their performance to be included in their long-awaited 3D movie.

"That's right, we will be filming this show all in 3D for... you guessed it, the upcoming Metallica 3D movie that we've mentioned on and off a few times this year," the band posted. "We couldn't think of a better place than Vancouver to end our three week new stage run with cameras capturing it all, so bring your nuttiest, craziest Metalli-self to the show, be a part of movie history, and show the rest of the world how much Vancouver rocks."

Tickets for both shows go on sale this Friday (May 25) through Ticketmaster. Fan club members will be eligible for an early bird pre-sale on Wednesday (May 23), with the regular pre-sale occurring on Thursday.

In the meantime, Metallica also have a string of dates across Europe and Mexico leading up to the Canadian dates. You can see the specifics here.
