Published Aug 10, 2015There's nothing quite like watching people headbang to their favourite metal band in real time, but photojournalist Jacob Ehrbahn has gone one step further and captured the act in crystal clear, still photographs. He's been working on this project for years, and the fruits of his labour will finally arrive in the form of a book next month.
The book is suitably titled Headbangers and collects 128 pages worth of neck-straining, hair-flipping metal freak outs. In addition to the metallic bliss in photos, the book also features an introduction from Per Folkver, a former colleague of Ehrbahn's at Politiken.
The photographs were captured at numerous metal outings, including Copenhell, Wacken Open Air and Metaltown.
As a press release explains, "Ehrbahn's camera stops time and captures the surprising and life-affirming moments when the headbangers abandon all semblance of vanity and surrender to the rhythm. Ehrbahn transports us to an intimate world disconnected from time and space—a universe where it's possible to transcend the frenzy and enter an altered state that brings calm, joy, and relief."
Headbangers will arrive on September 29 via powerHouse Books.
