Since starting up in Sarpsborg, Norway in 1985, Slayer Magazine has been covering some of the most extreme metal out there. From the early days of black metal, to crust and grind, up to the sinister sounds of today's metal scene, founder/editor Jon "Metalion" Kristiansen has been dedicated to preserving the heavy metal lifestyle in print. Celebrating over 25 years of metal madness, Kristiansen is now set to release a book documenting a lifetime of work.

As a press release explains, METALION: The Slayer Mag Diaries includes over 600 reproduction pages from every issue of Slayer Mag, from its beginnings straight through to 2010. The collection features a number of interviews with underground metal champions of all sorts. The book also features 100 rare photographs, including band portraits taken by Kristiansen.

Acts included in the tome include Mayhem, Emperor, Slayer, Kreator, Nihilist, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Cathedral, Entombed, Morbid, Napalm Death, Metallica, Opeth, Cradle of Filth, Sadistik Execution, Usurper, Nifelheim, Darkthrone, Sodom, Destruction, Morbid Angel, Deicide,Exodus, Dissection, Candlemass, Carcass, Sepultura, Gorgoroth, Death, Watain, Sadus, Satyricon, Enslaved, Pentagram, Jarboe, Immortal, Possessed, Overkill, Ulver, Dark Angel and more.

In addition, the book also serves as a memoir for the magazine founder, chronicling his life as a central figure in the Norwegian black metal scene. Whether he's discussing the current state of metal or taking a nostalgic glance at the past, Kristiansen's observations come straight from the heart.

"From the start, I made Slayer Mag as honestly and as well as I could," he said in a statement. "I never knew any other way. I hope that I have produced something that will stand the test of time."

METALION: The Slayer Mag Diaries will be released June 6 on Bazillion Points Books.
