We're already due to receive a new LP from master noise manipulator Merzbow (a.k.a. Masami Akita) this year, in the form of a collaboration with Boris, but if the last few decades have taught us anything, it's that the prolific musician is always ready to grind. Next up is a release with Eiko Ishibashi called Kouen Kyoudai.
The two-track LP is due March 18 through Editions Mego and finds noisesmith Akita plying his trade alongside piano, drum and synthesizer performances from Drag City signee Ishibashi. Fellow sonic icon Jim O'Rourke — who has collaborated with both Akita and Ishibashi in the past — recorded and mixed this latest collection, which was captured at Tokyo studios GOK SOUND and Super Deluxe.
Down below, you'll find an excerpt of the somewhat soothing, somewhat jarring collusion of white noise, collapsed drum beats and improv piano lines of Kouen Kyoudai's A-side, "Slide."
As for Akita's upcoming Gensho release with Boris, the album is due to drop next month via Relapse Records.
