Mercury Prize Reveals 2012 Nominees
The annual Barclaycard Mercury Prize, which honours the year's best album from the UK and Ireland, is returning for another instalment. Now, the 12 nominees for the 2012 edition of the award have been confirmed.

This year's contenders are:

The Maccabees - Given to the Wild
Jessie Ware - Devotion
Django Django - Django Django
Roller Trio - Roller Trio
Field Music Plumb
Richard Hawley - Standing at the Sky's Edge
Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again
Sam Lee - Ground of Its Own
Ben Howard - Every Kingdom
Lianne La Havas - Is Your Love Big Enough?
Alt-J - An Awesome Wave
Plan B - Ill Manors

The winner will be announced on November 1 at the Roundhouse in London, with the winning act being awarded £20,000 (about $30,000 Canadian).

Last year, PJ Harvey won the prize for her album Let England Shake.
