The Menzingers

"Where Your Heartache Exists" on Exclaim! TV

BY Bradley Zorgdrager Published Aug 21, 2014

After three albums of self-deprecating pop punk, the Menzingers turned up their amps and pumped out "some big, dumb riffs" (that's a good thing, by the way) for their recent album, Rented World. Speaking with Exclaim!, the band said they attributed their change to writing more on electric guitars, whereas previous releases were penned on and around acoustics. For this Exclaim! TV session, Greg Barnett took the fourth song on their fourth album (coincidentally released in the fourth month of the year in 2014) and returned to the unplugged instrument.

Similar to how the band's change of sound didn't take away any of their relevance, the stripped-down rendition of the song doesn't strip it of its power. Instead, the dual-natured lyrics hit that much harder.

Unfortunately, the band, who put on a killer live show, don't have any Canadian appearances booked for the remainder of 2014. Until their return, get your fill via this Exclaim! TV session in the player below.
