Members of Shabazz Palaces Announce New Album as Chimurenga Renaissance

Experimental Seattle hip-hop duo Shabazz Palaces released their acclaimed Sub Pop debut Black Up in 2011 but have been relatively quiet since, aside from reissuing a pair of EPs last year. Now, both of the group's members have branched out with a new project.

Both Shabazz Palaces members Ishmael "Palaceer Lazaro" Butler and Tendai "Baba" Maraire are involved with the new project Chimurenga Renaissance, where they're joined by Hussein Kalonji.

The trio have prepared a new album called riZe vadZimu riZe, which will be available on March 25 via Brick Lane. The release was mixed by Erik Blood and features guest appearances from THEESatisfaction, Dead Prez member M1 and Mall Saint.

The press release shared this very cryptic statement: "We were ordained to build a bridge strong enough to span oceans, but don't fall off. Under the waters, we're waiting with paws each larger than the head of a lion, rows of teeth, and jaws stronger than a Megaladon. Together, we are the black leviathan, panther of the deep."
