Members of Mudhoney, Young Fresh Fellows and Gas Huffer Team Up for Sonics Tribute
An all too obvious choice for would-be garage DJs across the globe, Tacoma, WA proto-punk legends the Sonics have been tearing up eardrums with their timeless fuzz since the early '60s. In fact, when they played NXNE on their reunion tour in 2009, we said they "basically rendered Mudhoney and every other grunge-era band irrelevant." Ironically, members of Mudhoney have teamed up with members of Gas Huffer, Girl Trouble and Young Fresh Fellows for a Sonics tribute band.

The band are called the New Original Sonic Sound, and they have put together a full album of Sonics covers for your enjoyment. From "The Witch" and "Psycho" to "Strychnine" and "Louie Louie," all of the classics are covered in this self-titled 16-track tribute, which was originally released in 2004, but is now receiving a deserved reissue. If they were smarter about it, they would have prefaced the LP with a festive cover of the Sonics' "Don't Believe in Christmas."

Regardless, The New Original Sonic Sound will be out on February 1 via Jackpot Records. Album opener "The Witch" can be downloaded here, courtesy of Pitchfork, while their take on "Strychnine" can be heard below.
