Melvins Get Butthole Surfers Members for 'Hold It In'

Ever-evolving sludge emperors the Melvins are chronicling yet another iteration of the band, having announced they've roped in a couple members of the Butthole Surfers to help them record their latest LP, Hold It In.

News of the album has been floating around for a while now, but a press release now confirms that the studio set drops October 14 via Ipecac Recordings. Recorded in Los Angeles and Austin earlier this year, the 12-song set teams Melvins mainstays Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover with Butthole Surfers guitarist Paul Leary and bassist JD Pinkus.

"Hold It In is a refreshing piece of fiction in a boring world of fact and bullshit," Osborne said in a statement of the LP, adding of his latest collaborators, "Paul is one of the best guitar players I have ever heard and Pinkus has an outside the box type of approach to both guitar and bass that you just have to let it ride. I can't believe this actually happened. I'm thrilled."

While 2013 saw Osborne and Crover re-team with original drummer Mike Dillard on Tres Cabron and with various guests on their covers set Everybody Loves Sausages, Hold It In is being billed as the first four-piece Melvins album since 2010's The Bride Screamed Murder. That LP, however, paired Osborne and Crover with Big Business members Jared Warren and Coady Willis.
