WQST Presents: Melanie Fiona Meets the Illadelphonics

Word surfaced sometime last month that Toronto-raised R&B singer Melanie Fiona, who has been creating a bit of a buzz with her "Give It 2 Me Right" single, was collaborating with ?uestlove of the Roots on a pre-album mixtape.

Check out the video here.

Well, her album The Bridge has actually already been released in Canada, but the record has yet to be officially released in United States and elsewhere. Technicalities aside, the mixtape entitled WQST Presents: Melanie Fiona Meets The Illadelphonics (A Live Remix Jam Session of "The Bridge") actually surfaced this past weekend. It features live reworkings of tracks from The Bridge, Kanye West's "Heartless," and "Somebody Come Get Me," (her dancehall track recorded under the name Syren Hall) with ?uestlove's session band the Illadelphonics.

Fiona is clearly reveling in the freedom the live context yields and ?uestlove gets to use his time in the NBC studio between Late Night With Jimmy Fallon constructively. No losers here.
