Now that we've had time to dwell on Megan Thee Stallion's debut album Good News, including the record's cutthroat Tory Lanez diss track "Shots Fired," the rapper has shared some insight on the song following the pair's alleged shooting incident earlier this year.
Speaking with Hot 97, Megan explained that "Shots Fired" was "ready to go the next day," but she initially held off on releasing the song until it was finally time to put her rap beef "on wax."
"It comes a time where it gets hard to be the bigger person sometimes," she said in the interview. "And, at the end of the day, I just can't keep letting people walk all over me."
She continued: "Like, I can't keep letting people take these jabs at me and I'm not gon' say nothing. That's just not in my nature, but when you know you're right and you know you have nothing to prove, you really don't have to give a response. But, once you made it rap beef, you put it on wax, now I gotta say something."
The rapper also spoke about her choice to sample the Notorious B.I.G.'s "Who Shot Ya" on the track, as well as her break from social media following the "dehumanizing" response to the shooting online.
Earlier this month, Meg recounted her experience with GQ, explaining that the incident began when she had tried to leave a car heading to a party, and an argument broke out with Lanez. Her phone battery was dead and she was in a bikini, so she decided to get back in the car. Then, she claimed she tried to walk away a second time when Lanez allegedly started shooting at her.
Lanez pleaded not guilty in November to two felony counts: assault with a semiautomatic firearm — personal use of a firearm; and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
Megan also claimed that Lanez begged her and her friend not to say anything about the incident, even offering to pay them off to stay silent. A lawyer representing Lanez denied that he had offered money.
