Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has revealed he has been diagnosed with throat cancer.

Mustaine shared the news in a post on Facebook today.

"I've been diagnosed with throat cancer. It's clearly something to be respected and faced head on — but I've faced obstacles before," he wrote. "I'm working closely with my doctors, and we've mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun."

Mustaine added that the news means Megadeth will cancel "most shows" that had been booked in 2019. He wrote that the band's annual "Megacruise" cruise ship tour will happen, and that "the band will be a part of it in some form."

He wrote, "Meanwhile, [guitarist Kiko Loureiro], [bassist/vocalist David Ellefson], [drummer Dirk Verbeuren] and I are in the studio, working on the follow up to Dystopia — which I can't wait for everyone to hear. I'm so thankful for my whole team — family, doctors, band members, trainers, and more."

Megadeth last delivered their Dystopia LP in 2016.
