Meek

Meek

Since his previous recording, Meek aka Mike Baugh went to electronic music school with a major in Richard D. James’ stylings and a minor in the Tigerbeat 6 crew’s penchant for raw, noisy beat-driven sound sculpting. It’s sounds are both smoothly buffered to a shine and sharply barbed, threatening lacerations. From the technical side, Baugh hulks his production strengths and sound dexterity while showing his newly gained ability to articulate beautiful melodies. The one unfortunate foray is a spoken word track called "Kandis” that sounds like it belongs to the Vanilla Ice school of hip-hop. Meek however balances this deficit with a track called "Wrug,” a sublime haunting work with filtered vocals worthy of anything on Aphex Twin’s Ambient Works Volume 2.
