Mazarin Offshoot Light Heat Enlists the Walkmen for Debut LP
Last year, former Mazarin member Quentin Stoltzfus debuted his new Light Heat project with a Walkmen-assisted breezer called "And the Birds," and that song will now figure on the group's upcoming self-titled LP.

Ribbon Music will serve up the 10-song set on June 25. Like the early single, the rest of Light Heat finds Stoltzfus surrounded by a backing band made up of the Walkmen's Paul Maroon, Matt Barrick, Peter Bauer and Walter Martin. The pairing makes sense, with Mazarin having toured with the Walkmen, and the latter group covering Stoltzfus' old band's "Another One Goes By" on their 2006 set One Hundred Miles.

Light Heat apparently weaves in classic influences like the Byrds with the more rhythmically adventurous pacing of Krautrock alumni Can, Faust and Cluster. The album is also said to be "chock full of metaphysical news."

You can sample the album's simmering, minimalist psych-surf number "Mirror" in the player down below.
