Matthew Good Returns with New Solo Album, Canadian Summer Dates

Canadian '90s radio mainstay Matthew Good is pressing ahead with his solo career, and the latest in his steady string of releases will arrive this fall. Good's new disc is called Arrows of Desire, and it's out on September 24 through FrostByte Media/Universal Music Canada.

According to a press release, the album finds Good venturing in new musical directions. While Arrows of Desire's sound isn't described in detail, it was apparently inspired by alt-rock vets the Afghan Whigs.

"I had come across an old playlist on my computer... and was listening to it while I was standing there," Good said in a statement. "Honky's Ladder by the Afghan Whigs came on and, [as] has been the case since the first time I heard it in 1996, it just overwhelmed me. There are a lot of people that are turned off by the discord of Greg Dulli's vocals, but ever since Up In It came out the utter abandon that he employs has always inspired me.

When it finished the one-two-three of 'I've Been Tired' filled my office and with those first words, which have been burned into my memory since 1987 — 'she's a real left winger cause she been down south and held peasants in her arms...' — I knew what I wanted to do. So I sat down, picked up a guitar, and within five minutes had the opening, first verse, and chorus of 'Via Dolorosa' done."

Lead single "Had It Coming" will arrive on iTunes on May 28. In July, Good will hit the road for a brief Canadian tour. Scroll past the tracklist to see the schedule.

This marks the follow-up to 2011's Lights of Endangered Species. The compilation Old Fighters was released earlier this year.
