Matt Goud Preps Debut LP as Northcote

Back in 2009, singer-songwriter Matt Goud signed to the Toronto-based label Black Box and unveiled his first EP under the moniker Northcote. Now, Goud is getting set to put out his first long-player. Entitled Gather No Dust, it will be out on April 19.

The Saskatchewan-born singer-songwriter is a former member of the post-hardcore band Means. Since that band broke up in 2008, Goud has relocated to Victoria, BC, and has now taken a melodic folk rock turn with his solo project.

According to a press release, Gather No Dust finds him "committed to a minimal and atmospheric approach to writing and recording." The ten-song offering promises to cover a broad spectrum of moods, as "the sentiments of Gather No Dust are vast; highs to lows, here's to there's." It was inspired by a year in which he moved from Regina, SK, to Yellowknife, NT, to Vancouver, BC, before finally settling in Victoria.

See the tracklist below, and click here for a free download of "Free Tonight." A brisk acoustic strummer, it sounds melancholic despite the galloping, upbeat rhythm section.

If you're in Toronto, you can catch Goud and his band perform at Canadian Music Week on Saturday night (March 12) at the Dakota. It's a late one, as he goes on at 1 a.m.
