Matt Andersen Comes Clean on 'Honest Man' LP, Shares Tour Dates and New Single

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Dec 15, 2015

New Brunswick bluesman Matt Andersen delivered the JUNO Award-nominated Weightless back in 2014, and he's now unveiled plans to follow it up with a new album called Honest Man. The record is due out on February 26 via True North Records.

Andersen recorded the new material in New York with famed R&B producer Commissioner Gordon, who Andersen says "was able to tie-in so many new ideas to what I've done in the past without losing touch with my sound."

It hears the singer-songwriter experimenting with drum beats — which Gordon brought to the table as a new starting point for many of the songs. "Using beats is something I never thought I would go for," Andersen said in a press release. "But it was a lot of fun and I'm really excited with what we recorded. If I was left up to my own devices it would have been a very different record."

Chris Kirby, Donovan Woods, Andy Stochansky, Ryan Hupman and Jamie Hartman receive co-writing credits throughout the record. Also featured on the album are veteran soul musicians like Andy Bassford (Toots and the Maytals), Benjamin Bouton (Ibibio Sound Machine), Josh David Barrett (the Wailers, Lauryn Hill) and Lenny Underwood (Mary J. Blige, Amy Winehouse).

Leading up to Honest Man's release, Andersen will be embarking on a North American tour. You can find the upcoming shows listed below. Beyond that, hear the first sampling of the new album by giving "Let's Get Back" a listen.
