Matias Aguayo Ay Ay Ay

Matias Aguayo Ay Ay Ay
Chilean-born and German raised, Matias Aguayo is an artist that never stops exploring and personalizing minimal techno. After a short-lived but high-impact debut on Kompakt as one half of Closer Music back in 2000, Aguayo has been relentlessly searching for the more organic side of minimal. This search could be clearly heard on his debut solo album, Are You Really Lost, full of vocals and Aguayo's exploration of the song within a minimal context. A series of twelve-inch releases, a trip through Latin America, "bumbumbox" street parties in Buenos Aires and the jumpstart of his Cómeme label all have had an impact on Ay Ay Ay, his second full-length solo release. There is a definite link to his previous full-length but the listener can feel a renewal of energy that infuses this incredibly catchy and diverse album. From the opener, "Menta Latte," a track built on countless layers of Aguayo's voice, to the first dreamy single, "Rollerskate," passing through sensuous Latin harmonies and even African influences, this is a refreshing album produced by an artist that's well under way to defining his own unique sound. While it's not something you're likely to hear at a straight-up house or techno party, Aguayo may well have a crossover hit on his hands. (Kompakt)
