Mastodon Appeared on 'Game of Thrones'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 1, 2015

Mastodon were among the artists who contributed to the recent Game of Thrones-themed compilation Catch the Throne: The Mixtape Vol. 2. Now, the metal band have upped their involvement in the beloved HBO fantasy show by appearing in an episode.

Band members Brann Dailor, Bill Kelliher, and Brent Hinds appeared the episode that aired earlier this evening (May 31). The musicians, who are reportedly big Game of Thrones fans, portayed wildlings after being personally invited by the show's creator/executive producer Dan Weiss. Filming took place in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

That's a photo of the band on-set (above). They aren't the first notable musicians to appear on the show, of course, since they're following in the footsteps of Coldplay's Will Champion and Sigur Rós.

Dailor said in a spoiler-filled statement, "It was such an incredible experience to be on set as extras for our collective favourite show Game of Thrones and to be wildlings murdered and then brought back to life by White Walkers was beyond amazing. I watched my best friends Brent and Bill, murdered right in front of me as I myself was stabbed in the stomach and had my throat slit multiple times, and I didn't mind at all. It made me love being in Mastodon even more. We are more than privileged and honoured to have been a part of one of the greatest stories ever told on film, and the catering wasn't bad either."
