Mastodon

"High Road"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 17, 2014

Atlanta metal beasts Mastodon are apparently ready to go Once More Round the Sun by releasing an upcoming album of the same name. Judging by the first metallic march to be previewed off the platter, they'll be taking the "High Road" to get there.

While an illicit stream of the song had appeared online yesterday (April 16) and was promptly taken down, Mastodon have now offered up the song properly. The intro sludges it up with a menacing, detuned riff and the propulsive three-quarter time pound of Brann Dailor's drums, the arrangement sounding like vintage Mastodon, circa Leviathan. They counter this with a spirits-raising chorus full of smooth-but-soaring vocal harmonies, and bust out a melodious twin guitar solo, but get back to crushing us by song's end.

You'll find the official player for the song down below.

Once More Round the Sun has yet to yield its official due date, but its expected sometime in June via Warner Bros.
