"Whole Damn Year"

The changing of the seasons reflect the changes in Mary J. Blige's heart in the singer's latest reveal from her upcoming The London Sessions LP, a downtempo crusher called "Whole Damn Year."

Scored by a slightly scratchy back beat and a delicate, finger-rolling piano melody, the track rips and tugs from the jump with Blige soulfully sermonizing about heartbreak, emptiness, and trust issues. "I really can't let you inside," she asserts softly, later weighing in that springtime, in particular, hit like a punch to the gut. "It took a whole damn year to repair my body," she explains as she tries to put the pieces back together.

Blige's The London Sessions lands November 24 through Capitol, equipped with contributions from Disclosure, Sam Smith and more.
