Mark Ronson “We Used to Wait” (Arcade Fire cover)
For a guy that’s made his name pumping out juiced-up big-beat interpretations of ’60s soul, Mark Ronson’s take on The Suburbs highlight “We Used to Wait” is a surprisingly sparse affair. Not that the Arcade Fire’s original version was the most bombastic of tunes, but Ronson strips it down to the essentials. Well, that and an added funk guitar lick.

A mandolin plucks along spritely as the drums hit a little bit lighter on Ronson’s interpretation. Getting into the act, Ronson tips his hat to Arcade Fire main man Win Butler with a warbly tenor vocal of his own. It’s not essential, but it serves as a reminder as to how god damn great this song is.
