Mark McGuire Teams Up with Drummer Nate Scheible for Collaborative LP; Emeralds Set Sights on Fall Release for New Album
This year has already been a busy one for Mark McGuire, but that doesn't mean the Emeralds guitar hero is through with us yet. Following this year's collaborative album with Spencer Clark as Inner Tube and the recent Nightshade cassette, McGuire has teamed up with Cleveland jazz/rock drummer Nate Scheible for the Certain Circumstances LP.

While McGuire was selling the new release at the merch table a few months back, it's only just gone up for sale online via the Music Fellowship imprint, who have pressed 500 copies of the LP and roped in studio whiz James Plotkin to handle the mastering.

The full-length album was recorded in the summer of 2009 shortly after McGuire's Editions Mego debut Living With Yourself, which also featured Scheible. According to the press release, Certain Circumstances captures "Mark in all his pre-'South Beach' optimism and boundless exploration of sound, while he and Nate playfully and joyously rip through a variety of styles and zones -- 'super slowed down ambient seagull jamz, super rhythmic almost rock jamz, overloaded free jazz style blasters, tonz o' fun!'"

You can see the cover above and the tracklist below.

In some related news, McGuire recently shared some new studio photos of Emeralds via his blog showing the trio recording their as-yet-untitled follow-up to the 2010 breakthrough album Does It Look Like I'm Here?

He wrote, "All of June was spent at Tangerine Sound Studios in Akron, Ohio recording the new emeralds album, which should see release some time this fall."

Among the photos, you'll see some featuring a certain Canadian beatsmith: Dan Snaith, or as he's commonly known Caribou (plus now Daphi). While there's no word yet on whether Snaith is helping out on the recordings, that wouldn't entirely be out of the question, since he both toured with Emeralds in 2010 and more recently remixed some of their tracks.

For now, though, we'll just have to wait and see what Emeralds end up turning in.
