Mark Lanegan Band

"Floor of the Ocean" (Pye Corner Audio remix)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 27, 2014

Husky-voiced rock vet Mark Lanegan went in a synthy new wave direction on this year's Phantom Radio, and now the track "Floor of the Ocean" has gotten a similarly electronic — but extremely different — remix courtesy of Pye Corner Audio.

While the original had a dreamy surge, this version of the track is far more sedate in its hazed-out drift. The first three minutes float along with dark electronic swirls, soft drum machine taps and Lanegan's tuneful croons. After that, a blippy synth loop enters and the song adopts a more danceable shimmy. Together with a come-down outro, the whole arrangement lasts nearly eight minutes.
