Mark Dresser / Fred Frith / Ikue Mori

Later...

BY Eric HillPublished Dec 1, 2000

This is a 1994 recording by three giants in improvised/avant music. Dresser and Mori (on double bass and electronic percussion) have long been players in the NYC downtown jazz scene, while Frith is a veteran of UK prog/experimental outfits like Henry's Cow and others. Some of these pieces would please any modern jazz audience while others have a whiff of testing gone awry at the prototype toy plant. Frith manages to saw through the wobbly rhythms burbled by the other two with an arsenal of strings and keys and clicky things. Never out of control, but definitely out there.
