Marilyn Manson Plots 'Antichrist Superstar' 20th Anniversary Box Set

Before Marilyn Manson hits the family with his forthcoming Say10, the longtime shock rocker is reportedly dropping an anniversary release supporting his landmark 1996 album, Antichrist Superstar. Though details are slim, Manson says a box set is out next month.

An interview with Dazed had Manson discussing the box, noting that it should hit stores October 20. While its contents are mostly being kept under wraps, the frontman explained, "We're putting out a box set on October 20, and it has a legendary video that I had to put into a safe for the past 15 years, for reasons that will be revealed when you watch it.

"I had innocently thought that it was acceptable to use it as sort of a bonus feature on my Dead to the World video for the 'Antichrist Superstar' tour. However, the legal department and my management informed me otherwise. But now it is going to be seen by all."

While Manson said he didn't want to "spoil it" for fans, he admitted that the video was filmed shortly after moving to Los Angeles in the '90s, from Florida.

"I was living with Twiggy [Ramirez] and I had just come off a tour where I got death threats every day. It's an interesting portrayal of what was happening at the time, but strangely, it doesn't seem any different than the way I behave now, except that I'm wearing a cowboy hat. That's about it."

While Marilyn Manson had garnered acclaim earlier in the '90s — most notably for a cover of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) on 1995's Smells Like Children EP — Antichrist Superstar was the project's mainstream breakthrough. Released October 8, 1996, through Nothing/Interscope, it features signature single "The Beautiful People."

As for Say10, Manson's 10th full-length release is expected to arrive on February 14, 2017. This latest interview has the artist comparing it to Antichrist Superstar and 1998 follow-up Mechanical Animals. It will mark the first full-length from Marilyn Manson since 2015's The Pale Emperor.
