Thursday night at the Rivoli was a celebration of all things East coast, and Halifax’s Mardeen were no exception. I’d been waiting to see these guys play for some time, and they delivered their songs just as I’d expected them to: with powerful presence, but with a slight need for more personality. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it until a wise man later said to me that two of the members reminded him a lot of Michael Cera and Jonah Hill in Superbad: highly entertaining and slightly off the beaten track, but in a way that somehow works for them.
