Published Oct 17, 2016Techno heavyweight and Berghain incendiary Marcel Dettmann is the latest to contribute to DJ-Kicks — one of electronic music's most legendary and established compilation series. Having delivered official mixes such as Berghain 02 in 2008 and fabric 77 in 2014 to critical acclaim, Dettmann's latest compilation helps attest to the Berlin icon's massive influence on the state of modern techno.
Dettmann carefully culls from his extensive collection, mixing in a slew of original productions, remixes, edits and collaborations — including his most recent with Levon Vincent — with classics from Orlando Voorn, NAD and Dan Curtin. In a valiant effort to diversify his track list, Dettmann's contribution to the DJ-Kicks series also features several influential labels, including Force Inc. Music Works, Multiplex and Torso throughout the hour-long mix. Several previously unreleased Dettmann reworks of Cybersonik, Nukubus and Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia also appear, as does the recently reissued "Cause I Said It Right" by Clarence G, an alias of the late James Stinson.
Released via !K7, the mix is geared to please the sonic palettes of critics and casual listeners alike. The curation explores a range of genres, drawing from house, techno and new wave from the past 30 years across these 19 tracks. (!K7)
