Marble Index

The Marble Index

BY Andrew SteenbergPublished Oct 1, 2004

Hamilton’s the Marble Index add to the expansive registry of new and promising local acts, but hold one advantage which may, eventually, trump them all: variety. Equally comfortable with jerky, not-quite-reggae rhythms as with inexorable billows, the band show a strong, albeit desultory, pragmatic musical appreciation. At precisely the midway point, "Alright by Now” shows just how great this band can sound; at other points, the rest of the band is left trying to catch up to Ryan Tweedle’s fresh and dexterous bass lines — shoved to the front (exactly where they should be). A solid debut from a band that you know will only get better.
