Manuel Göttsching Treats 'E2-E4' to 35th Anniversary Reissue

Kosmische pioneer Manuel Göttsching has led projects like Ash Ra Tempel and Ashra, but come next year, the German boundary pusher will be celebrating one of his most notable solo works by reissuing his classic E2-E4.

The album came out in 1984, but it had been recorded three years earlier, in 1981, so this is being billed as a 35th anniversary edition. The new pressing will come through Göttsching's own MG.ART label on January 26. It will be available in a variety of formats: this includes a 180-gram vinyl pressing, a CD version with an eight-page booklet, and a CD/DVD package with a live concert from 2006.

The original nine-song trackist has been preserved; see it below. Clocking in at nearly an hour in length, these tracks combine to make a near-hour-long electronic suite.

E2-E4 has been reissued before; there was a 25th anniversary edition in 2006 and a 30th anniversary edition in 2011.

This is apparently just the beginning of Göttsching's reissue plans for 2016, as Resident Advisor notes that he's also eyeing new pressings of solo albums Inventions for Electric Guitar (1975), Die Mulde (2005) and Live at Mt. Fuji (2007), plus Ash Ra Tempel's Le Berceau de Cristal (1975/1993) and Ashra's Blackouts (1977), Correlations (1979) and Belle Alliance (1980). However, since these have popped up as various reissues over the years on CD, it's unclear if this means the albums will be headed back to vinyl.
