Mannequin Pussy are set to release their fourth full-length I Got Heaven on March 1, and so far we’ve already heard three pretty stellar songs — the title track, “I Don’t Know You” and “Sometimes.” Today we get another taste of the album with “Nothing Like,” which comes attached to an AI video directed by Connor Clarke.
The song is great and the video looks pretty cool regardless of your feelings about how it was made, with director Connor Clarke creating some nightmarish visuals that mimic ‘50s films, early Disney classics and stop-motion claymation. It’s creepy! Maybe AI truly is evil!
About the song itself, Missy Dabice said:
“Nothing Like” is pure fantasy. Originally inspired by a stoned out night 6 years ago spent watching an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in which Buffy is forced to kill her lover, Angel, before he destroys the world. The song existed in fragments until it finally met its final form last year. Young love is so often all consuming, dangerous, and heightened to mythological proportions - "Nothing Like" sought to mix the balance of both the light feelings of new love and the absolute depths that obsession can bring you to.
