Manic Street Preachers Celebrate 20th Anniversary of 'The Holy Bible' with Box Set Reissue

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 6, 2014

The mid-'90s was a particularly fertile time for British rock, and many of the era's classic albums are turning 20 in the next year or two. This includes Manic Street Preachers' The Holy Bible, which is being reissued in expanded form on December 9 through Columbia/Sony.

This 20th anniversary edition of this 1994 album has been remastered and expanded with plenty of bonus material. The Holy Bible 20 box set comes with the album on 180-gram vinyl, four CDs and a 40-page book.

The CDs include the remastered 13-song album (both the UK and U.S. editions), B-sides, live tracks and an unreleased version of "Revol." There's also a live disc with a show captured at the London Astoria in late 1994; this was the band's final gig with guitarist and principal lyricist Richey Edwards, who went missing the next year (and was eventually presumed dead in 2008). The live disc also includes some acoustic cuts from a radio session

This is the first time that The Holy Bible has been pressed on vinyl since 1994, when it came out in a limited run of picture discs. As for the book, it includes previously unseen photos, handwritten lyrics, and liner notes with some words from the band.

See the tracklist below; grammarians will be disappointed to note that the erroneous apostrophe in "Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayit'sworldwouldfallapart" remains in tact. The surviving members of the band will perform the album in full at a few UK gigs next month; those dates are also below.

A press release notes that The Holy Bible "tackled subjects such as the Holocaust, the Brady Bill, anorexia [and] political correctness." Most of the words were written by Edwards, who was suffering from alcohol abuse, depression, self-harm and anorexia.

The set can be pre-ordered here.
