Published Sep 03, 2014New Orleans artist Nickesse Toney, better known as Nicky Da B, has passed away. He was 24 years old.
Nicky Da B was a popular figure in the bounce subgenre, and released a solo album called Don't Forget About Da B in 2012. He's likely best known for his appearance on Diplo's iconic twerk anthem Express Yourself.
Toney's cause of death is unknown at this time, but his management confirmed the news, sharing the following statement [via Pitchfork]:
It is with heaviness in our hearts today that we confirm the passing of Nicky Da B. Nicky was a beautiful soul and we will always be grateful for his magnetic personality and loving spirit. We were inspired by his talent as much as his tireless optimism, compassion and humility. Our condolences go out to his family at this time.
Diplo remembered the artist with a series of tweets, which you can read below. Nicky Da B was apparently working on a solo album for Mad Decent.
