Magik Markers' Pete Nolan Takes it 'Easy' on Debut Solo Album

Magik Markers' Pete Nolan Takes it 'Easy' on Debut Solo Album
Pete Nolan might be best known for his work with projects like Hartford, CT-based noise rock outfit Magik Markers and the Steve Shelley-featuring offshoot Spectre Folk, but he's ready to put his own name on the marquee with his first solo album.

The new LP is simply titled Easy, and it's due out on August 15 through Arbitrary Signs.

Nolan wrote, recorded and mixed the album at his home studio with the help of his wife Julie, using what he's learned over the years from working with artists like Lee Ranaldo, Scott Colburn and Aaron Mullan — but remaining anchored by his background as a sound collage artist.

The resulting collection hears Nolan guiding the listener on a sonic journey through hazy vibrations, hypnotic beats, dark synths and warm orchestral flourishes. It's an album as varied as his influences and past musical projects, and as a press release puts it, it's Nolan's "most expansive yet obsessively honed set of songs to date."

It continues on to describe Easy as "an outsider pop magnum opus collecting layer after layer of lived-in sounds and singing the harmony of their unexpected alignment."

You can get your first listen to the new solo material in the video for "Sound of Bees." Scroll past the album's tracklisting and Nolan's upcoming tour dates to give it a watch.
