Published Jun 15, 2013Brothers Geordie and Evan Gordon may not get the praise they deserve for their roles in pop rockers Islands, but their contributions become infinitely more noticeable when given their chance to shine with the Magic. The brothers were joined by a sextet of musicians, including another lead singer in Sylvie Smith, and a bongo player. The live band successfully executed the intricacies of the tunes, and the eclectic mix of musicians never bogged down the sound; each member fit like a cog in the musical machine of the Magic. The band played several catchy, funky, and fun tunes, including a trio of premieres, all of which held their own as new additions to the band's catalogue. Combined with some herky-jerky dance moves, the band's set was as entertaining as it was a good listen, and if those new songs are any indicator, the band's next album should definitely be one to keep an eye out for.
