Madonna Blasts Kendall Jenner's Pepsi Ad on Instagram

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 6, 2017

Kendall Jenner and Pepsi paired up for an embarrassingly tone deaf ad earlier this week, and although the soft drink company has since pulled the commercial in the wake of heated backlash, people cannot stop talking about the marketing misstep. Now, even former Pepsi ad star Madonna has taken to social media to jeer at Jenner and the team behind the controversy-causing spot.

In a post on Instagram yesterday (April 5), Madonna shared a snippet from the commercial with the caption: "When you wake up and realize that Shit just really doesn't make sense!"

The clip in question stars Jenner, who takes a break from a modelling shoot to join in a mob of millennial protest marchers. When they come face-to-face with a line of police officers, Jenner simply steps forward, hands a cop a can of pop and everyone present is overcome with joy and a sense of worldwide harmony — a far cry from the photo of Ieshia Evans's experience in Baton Rouge last year, which many have accused the ad of appropriating.

Madonna further condemned the Pepsi spot, pointing out the differences between her own pulled "Like a Prayer" ad campaign from 1989 and Jenner's. The caption continued: "My Pepsi commercial was pulled 30 years ago because I was kissing a black saint! #ironic"

To really drive her point home, Madge proceeded to share an old photo of her clenching a refreshing can of Coca Cola.
